Spirals
You can give a dog a treat
and you can make it kill.
If you make it see colors,
you can make yourself,
if you want, see colors.
If you savor the blood,
your head will hollow bold,
noisy.
Well, you can spiral and you can spiral,
but it’s sure hard to fill
the space where your heart is.
You can still fall in the brambles
when you are done.
You can lick the air
where her body strode.
You can suck clean her discarded boots.
You wonder how you are,
stripped in front of the mirror.
You can touch where hip meets
quadriceps, diagram yourself
in the evening, rising.
But you cannot figure corporeity
without running into her.
Her legs, narrow lips, fingers:
in search after things anyone
could see.
