Pinturas Negras de Goya | The Black Paintings by Goya
by Natalie Ernst
I
El Perro | The Dog
Half drowned I lie
in wake of my desperation,
just stop it
close your tired eyes
hold your barren breath
and put your head under
put your head under
p u l l y o u r h e a d u n d e r
I can’t
touch my body, it hurts
watching the austere sky
the distain of man
drooping towards me.
II
Dos Viejos | Two Old Men
Staring pensively
toward the muddled ground
worn and delicate
cloaked in fear
and shame of being afraid.
I lost my head
to feel
the grotesque wails
blowing across my cheeks
those garbled words
all too silent
yet I refuse
to remove my eyes
to meet his sunken gaze.
