Kiln was originally published in hard copy. In 2009, the magazine revived and switched to a new home on the web, where it was published each year until 2013.
Beginning with the Spring 2014 issue, we changed our name to The Kiln Project, chose a theme for the first time, built a fresh website, and dedicated ourselves to taking advantage of our online home. The Kiln Experience and its teaser video which each combined visuals, the written word, and audio to create a complex, immersive journey through the heart of the Spring 2014 issue—something that would be impossible on paper.
A decade later, The Kiln Project is still innovating. The 2024 issue is the first to condense the The Kiln Project & Via on one website. We want as many eyes as possible on the work of the talented undergraduates at Saint Louis University, so we created a more convenient navigation experience for our readers. If you're looking a Via article that was published in a previous issue, you'll likely find it in the archive on this website.
For the 2024 issue, we wanted to explore "Liminal Space." Learn more about this year's theme by visiting The Kiln Project page.
